10. The Yoga of Divine Manifestations
Vibhūti Yoga (विभूतियोग)
glory
Summary
Arjuna asks Krishna to describe his divine glories so the human mind might grasp them. Krishna lists: among lights I am the sun, among mountains I am Meru, among trees the peepal, among rivers the Ganges, among letters I am A, among horses I am Uchchaihshravas, among sciences I am the science of the self. Wherever you see excellence, beauty, or strength — know it as a spark of the divine.
Key teaching
The divine is not somewhere else. It is the excellence visible in this world — the best of every category. To love the beautiful is to love the divine indirectly. The chapter teaches reverence for excellence wherever it shows up.
Modern application — what to do today because of this
Where do you naturally feel awe — at music, at mathematics, at a craft well done, at a person operating at the height of their gift? Treat those moments as small worship. Awe is the easiest spiritual practice; you only need to stop interrupting it.
